Carl Gawboy


Carl-GawboyCarl Gawboy is a prominent American Indian artist and a retired longtime instructor of American Indian Studies at the College. He was born in Cloquet and grew up in Ely. He is an enrolled member of the Bois Forte Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe. His art, mostly paintings in watercolors and acrylics, depicts everyday life of American Indians in the Northland, including images of hunting, gathering and fishing, as well as historical themes. His work has been displayed throughout the United States. He has produced many murals for public spaces and government buildings, including 35 murals for the Superior, WI, public library.
