A Century of Saints

Frances Lavine

Frances LavineFrances Lavine was the first non-monastic woman on the College's Board of Trustees. An energetic civic activist and president of Lavine Newspaper Group, she continued to serve the College long past her stint as a Trustee. She was a benefactor to the St. Scholastica library and created several scholarships for St. Scholastica students. In memory of her husband, she established the Max H. Lavine Award for Teaching Excellence, the College's top faculty award. When asked why she devoted so much of her time and talents to the College, she answered: "Whenever I've given anything to St. Scholastica, it's come back to me ten-fold."
