The spring Head of the Lakes Job fair was hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Superior career services in the UW-S Yellow Jacket Union on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
This Twin Ports job fair was open to the public; however, it was aimed specifically at students from UW-S, the University of Minnesota-Duluth and the College of St. Scholastica seeking internships.
A lot of majors require internships to graduate, Nick Reijo, a senior at UW-S, said. This job fair is a great way to meet a lot of different employers at once to find those internships.

Mary Anderson, director of career services at CSS, was part of the effort to get students to attend the job fair. Anderson said that it is important to attend the Head of the Lakes Job Fair, even if you aren't sure what you're looking for.
The beauty of this specific job fair is that it is free and it's local, Anderson said. It's good for students to jump on this opportunity early, even if it's just good practice for the next fair.
We thought the economy might bring down the number of employers, but we ended up having to put three on a wait list, Anderson said.
One of the 55 employers, Automotive Parts Headquarters, was represented by human resources specialist, Tonya Inselman, who also believes that job fairs are important for students, but also for employers as well.
We do have a large presence in the Duluth-Superior area and this job fair is a great way for us to get candidates to fill positions in the Twin Ports, Inselman said. We have positions open, but even if employers don't, it's a good way to seek a pool of candidates that would be a good fit for future positions.
For next year, Anderson hopes for the same employer attendance, but an increased attendance from the students. CSS hopes to double the representation of students at the next Head of the Lakes Job Fair.
The best way to reach out to students is testimonials from other students, so I hope the attendees are talking, Anderson said. Our main goal attendance wise is to just increase the numbers every year.
