Notes to go with Biochemistry scheme:
* If the student is not prepared to take calculus tested higher than 28 on ACT Math subscore, the prerequisite MTH 1111 (Elementary Functions I) and/or MTH 1122 (Elementary Functions II) must be taken in the first year. This will subtract room for an elective from the scheme. In some cases this may require transferred credits or summer school in order to graduate in 4 years.
Students who are mathematically prepared may take Calculus I and II in the first year and Physics I and II in the sophomore year. Pre-med students choosing BIO 2110 and BIO 2120 as electives could take these courses as juniors or seniors instead of the sophomore year.
# Students planning to attend graduate school are recommended to take CHM 4060 (Undergraduate Research) as one of their electives or to do a summer research project. If research is done during the summer students may sign up for an independent study (CHM 4999 – Research Paper and Presentation – 1cr). Recommended courses include CHM 4060 (Undergraduate Research), CHM 3220 (Intermediate Organic Chemistry), (Medicinal Chemistry), CHM 4020 (Inorganic Chemistry); BIO 3101 (Conversations with a Naturalist), BIO 3020 (Pathophysiology), BIO 3130 (Embryology), or others in consultation with the advisor.
† CHM 3240, BIO 2250, and BIO 3500 are typically offered in either semester. Pre-medical students might want to take CHM 3000 and BIO 3430/3431 in their senior year and take BIO 3500 (Genetics) as a junior in order to prepare for the MCAT in spring of the junior year.
