Spanish (SPN) Minor
The Spanish language and culture
program includes four semesters of basic Spanish language study using a
communicative approach as well as a series of courses designed to increase a
student’s knowledge of Hispanic life, history and culture.
The Minor in Spanish
Minor candidates need to complete
the following requirements:
- Twenty
credits beyond the level of SPN 1104.
- SPN
3513 (Composition and Grammar Review). This requirement may be met with courses
in other programs with the consent of St. Scholastica Spanish
faculty. Prerequisite: SPN 2102.
- At
least one Spanish language literature course.
- Completion
of one of the following civilization or culture courses: LIS 3303, LIS/HIS 2009, SPN 3601, or SPN
3602. Participation in study-abroad
programs may replace the above with the consent of St. Scholastica Spanish
faculty.
- Only
one course taught in English may count towards the minor. These courses include LIS/SPN 3303 (The
Other America),
HIS 2009 (Modern Latin American History), and LIS 3202 (Culture Through
Film, Section 5). Other courses in English may count with prior approval
from St. Scholastica Spanish faculty.
- LIS
4555 (LIS Internship) may count towards the minor with prior approval from
St. Scholastica Spanish faculty.
