Kupris Joins Team

John Kupris of St. Paul has been named Director of Major Gifts at the College.

He is responsible for planning and implementing individual major gift development in St. Scholastica's Institutional Advancement Department. He also will serve as the College's U.S. East Coast representative, providing a personal link to alumni, parents of current students and friends of the College. He will be based in St. Paul.

Kupris comes to the position from St. Scholastica's Division of Extended Studies, where he worked in the Accelerated Degree Evening Program at the College's St. Paul campus.

"John's keen appreciation of the College's mission and Benedictine values serves him well in his relationships with alumni," said Del Case, vice president for Institutional Advancement at St. Scholastica. "As a former student advisor for us, he also understands the St. Scholastica experience from current students' perspective. He will significantly enhance our major gift development."

Kupris is a graduate of The University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, with a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in divinity. He has also studied on the graduate level at the University of St. John's in Jerusalem, Israel and at Chapman University in Orange, CA.

Tower Fund Update

The college delayed some of its fall fundraising programs after the tragic events of Sept. 11. Despite a late start, the Tower Fund campaign is holding pace with last year. With a goal of $536,000, the College had already received cash and pledge commitments of more than $320,000 as of Dec. 31 - which represents 60 percent of the goal. We are experiencing increased participation from our parents, faculty and staff, and businesses.

Challenges remain in alumni participation, an area that has declined over the past several years. Last year the alumni participation rate fell below 30 percent for the first time. While overall alumni giving is up as a result of larger gift sizes, it's important to improve our participation rate because ranking agencies, the media, and some funding sources view alumni participation rates as evidence of a college's success.

It's not too late for alums to participate!

Our spring direct mail and telephone campaigns begin shortly. In order for us to bring alumni participation back to the 30 percent mark this year, the College needs approximately 1,000 more alums to contribute to the Tower Fund. Sending a gift, no matter what size, brings us closer to achieving this goal. Please respond positively!
