Men's Soccer Women's Soccer Volleyball Cross Country


Men's Soccer
The Men's Soccer team came within one game of the NAIA National Tournament, losing to 2Oth-ranked University of Mary 4-0 in the NAIA Region 3 finals. Coach Nic Bacigalupo (eighth season, 78-81-4 record) relied on forwards Neil Runbeck and Seth Maxim to fuel the offense, while Aaron Waterman stepped into the goalkeeper duties for an injured Jake Lammi to lead the Saints to an 11-11 record, winning the UMAC regular season with a 6-2 record.

Runbeck was named NAIA All-American Honorable Mention, in addition to NAIA All-Region First Team and UMAC Player of the Year. He rewrote the record book, holding school records in career scoring (157), career goals (57), career assists (43), points in a game (10) and assists in a game (4). Runbeck, Waterman, Maxim and Jed Howard were named First Team All-UMAC. Patterson and Jay Yeager were named to the second team. Patterson was also named NAIA A1l-Region Second Team.

Howard and Brad Wenzel were named NAIA All-American Scholar Athletes.

Women's Soccer
The Saints Women's Soccer team under the direction of Head Coach Dave Reye1ts (second season, 13-28 overall) scored a stunning 4-3 upset over Northland College in the UMAC Championship semifinals. The Saints then took two overtimes to beat Northwestern to gain the distinction of UMAC Playoff Champions. They came within one game of a berth to the NAIA National Tournament, losing to Huron College 1-0.

The late-season run was led by NAIA Honorable Mention All-American and First Team All-Region forward Ana Jeronimus. Kelly Allen, a Second Team All-Region selection and the Saints leading scorer with 29 points, also contributed. Both Kelly and Jeronimus were named First Team All-UMAC. Becky Whitcomb, Courtney Somerville, both seniors, and junior goalkeeper Mary Reisdorf were named Second Team All-UMAC.

Jessica Hicks and Whitcomb were also named NAIA All-American Scholar Athletes.

Volleyball
The Saints Volleyball team enjoyed their best season since 1988, when they won the NLCAA National Championship. Behind the leadership of four seniors, the Saints finished second in the UMAC and 24-9 overall. The Saints won the Viterbo Classic and finished second place at three other tournaments. They also set a team record for most ace serves in a match (36).

Coach Dana Moore (fifth season, 98-87 overall) was named UMAC Coach of the Year and seniors Kate Wagemaker, Jenny Mayers and Kathy Hazuka along with sophomores Amanda Schaust and Lara Kopp were named to the All-UMAC Team.

Jenny Mayers was named to the NAIA All-Region Team as well as being named as a Verizon Academic All-American. Mayers, along with fellow seniors Wagemaker, Hazuka and Michelle Fridgen were named NAIA Academic All- Americans.


Cross Country
The Men's and Women's Cross Country teams, led by Steve Pfingsten (tenth season), began the year with much optimism and weren't disappointed. The II men and 27 women were the most ever to participate in the sport.

Desiree Budd led the women to their best season in school's history with a 17th place finish at the NAIA National Tournament. They were ranked as high as eighth in the NAIA National Polls.

Individually, Budd received NAIA All-American honors by finishing second at the NAIA Nationals and set a school record of 17:58 at the NAIA Mid-State Championships. Teammates Ashlee Charles, Amanda Noska, Robyn Koehler and Laine Willkom where named All-UMAC. Charles and Budd were also named All-Region. Koehler joined Charles and Budd as NAIA All-American Scholar-Athletes. Josiah Nelson led the men to a fourth-place finish at the UMAC Championship.
