In March Dr. Denise Wise, assistant professor and chair of the Department of
Physical Therapy, represented St.Scholastica at an Oxford (England)
University discussion on accommodating the needs of individuals with disabilities.
The 20 participants from the United States and Canada included rehabilitation
counselors, physical therapists, faculty in education programs, directors of school
district special services, an attorney and an audiologist. Topics of papers and
discussions ranged from cultural definitions of disability and how American
legislation affects and frames the delivery of services, to how to educate teachers
and recognize students with special needs.
"It was a truly intellectual experience and an opportunity to learn more about
the transdisciplinary nature of law, administration, education and healthcare in
meeting the needs of all individuals," Wise said. "I'm honored to have been invited."
