St. Scholastica Social Justice and Inclusion Scholarships

Scholarship Criteria:

Scholarships are awarded up to $10,000 based on the application and the student's need level as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and the specific scholarship the student may be selected for. Each scholarship will be renewable for up to three years after the first year.


Requirements:

  • Applicant must be an entering first-year or new transfer student in the traditional undergraduate program.
  • Applicant must be accepted and know their CSS Student ID to apply (provided on the acceptance letter). If you have not yet been accepted, we invite you to apply for the Social Justice and Inclusion Scholarships once you have been accepted. Please contact Admissions with questions about your acceptance/ID.
  • Applicant must demonstrate participation and commitment to pluralism, social justice, inclusion and diversity; or advancing and/or preserving tribal communities' traditions (which may include culture, language or history, and/or addressing contemporary social, economic or legal issues impacting tribal communities).
  • If selected for any of these three scholarships, the recipient must attend Multicultural Leadership Training held the week before fall semester, in conjunction with move-in weekend. If this is not a viable option, student will need to work with the Office of Multicultural Student Services to coordinate other training.
  • Applicant should submit the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) www.fafsa.gov to be awarded a scholarship.
  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.

Renewal Requirements:

  • If selected for any of these three scholarships, student must attend Multicultural Leadership Training held the week before fall semester, in conjunction with move-in weekend. If this is not a viable option, student will need to work with the Office of Institutional Diversity to coordinate other training.
  • Recipient must maintain continuous, full-time enrollment status.
  • Recipient must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (GPA 2.0 or higher and 67% completion ratio).
  • Once the school year has started, the recipients will need to complete the Individual Plan for Academic Success Assessment and schedule a one-on-one meeting with Sarah Stewart, Associate Director of the Office of Multicultural Student Services, to discuss expected outcomes including:
    • Setting academic goals for the year
    • Identifying strengths and areas of concern
    • Building an individual plan for resources
  • The amount of the scholarship does factor in on-campus versus off-campus housing plans; the amount will be lower if the student should live off campus.
  • Recipient should file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) each year while enrolled.
Important: The requirements listed above are effective for all new and current students who accept the scholarship. Failure to complete any of the above requirements will result in the loss of the scholarship.     - Write a brief personal essay (500-1,000 words) describing:
    • Actions you have taken in order to promote/advance ideas of social justice, inclusive excellence, intercultural work, or counter bias. Utilize your personal background including your identity or intersecting of identities, personal experiences, involvement with intercultural or social justice activities in your high school or communities you live in.
    • If applicable, please include actions taken that may impact tribal communities and/or preserving tribal traditions. Include the name of the community you are enrolled or have descendant status with, the communities you are connected with, and your connections to tribal traditions.
